Group-based multiple pipe routing method for aero-engine focusing on parallel layout

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2021, Volume 16, Issue 4,   Pages 798-813 doi: 10.1007/s11465-021-0645-3

Abstract: External pipe routing for aero-engine in limited three-dimensional space is a typical nondeterministic polynomial hard problem, where the parallel layout of pipes plays an important role in improving the utilization of layout space, facilitating pipe assembly, and maintenance. This paper presents an automatic multiple pipe routing method for aero-engine that focuses on parallel layout. The compressed visibility graph construction algorithm is proposed first to determine rapidly the rough path and interference relationship of the pipes to be routed. Based on these rough paths, the information of pipe grouping and sequencing are obtained according to the difference degree and interference degree, respectively. Subsequently, a coevolutionary improved differential evolution algorithm, which adopts the coevolutionary strategy, is used to solve multiple pipe layout optimization problem. By using this algorithm, pipes in the same group share the layout space information with one another, and the optimal layout solution of pipes in this group can be obtained in the same evolutionary progress. Furthermore, to eliminate the minor angle deviation of parallel pipes that would cause assembly stress in actual assembly, an accurate parallelization processing method based on the simulated annealing algorithm is proposed. Finally, the simulation results on an aero-engine demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

TRANSLATING THE MULTI-ACTOR APPROACH TO RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE USING A WORKSHOP APPROACH FOCUSING ON

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 8, Issue 3,   Pages 460-473 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2021416

Abstract:

The EIP-Agri multiactor approach was exemplified during a 3-day workshop with 63 project participants from the EU H2020 funded project “Redesigning European cropping systems based on species MIXtures”. The objective was to share firsthand experience of participatory research among researchers who were mostly not familiar with this approach. Workshop participants were divided into smaller multidisciplinary groups and given the opportunity to interact with representatives from eight actor positions in the value chain of the agrifood cooperative Terrena located in Western France. The four stages of the workshop were: (1) key actor interviews, (2) sharing proposed solutions for overcoming barriers, and (3) developing possible interdisciplinary concepts. Expressions of frustration were recorded serving both as a motivation for group members to become more aware of the scientific concerns and practices of their colleagues, as well as a recognition that some researchers have better skills integrating qualitative approaches than others. Nevertheless, the workshop format was an effective way to gain a common understanding of the pertinent issues that need to be addressed to meet overall multiactor-approach objectives. Working with the actor networks was identified and emphasized as a means to overcome existing barriers between academia and practice in order to coproduce a shared vision of the benefits of species mixture benefits.

A modified zone model for estimating equivalent room thermal capacity

Hua CHEN, Xiaolin WANG

Frontiers in Energy 2013, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 351-357 doi: 10.1007/s11708-013-0254-x

Abstract: The zone model has been widely applied in control analysis of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to achieve a high building efficiency. This paper proposed a modified zone model which is much simpler in the HVAC system simulation and has the similar accuracy to the complicated simulation model. The proposed model took into consideration the effect of envelop heat reservoir on the room indoor temperature by introducing the thermal admittance of the inner surfaces of the building enclosure. The thermal admittance for the building enclosure was developed based on the building thermal network analytical theory and transfer function method. The efficacy of the proposed model was demonstrated by comparing it with the complicated model — heat balance method (HTB2 program). The predicted results from the proposed model well agreed with those from the complicated simulation. The proposed model can then make the HVAC system dynamic simulation much faster and more acceptable for control design due to its simplicity and efficiency.

Equivalent linearization method based on assessment area in the analysis-design of pressure vessels

Yin Yihui,Yu Shaorong

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 10,   Pages 31-35

Abstract:

Based on the analytical solutions of a spherical pressure vessel subjected to internal pressure, it points out that the results of membrane stress and bending stress are inaccurate obtained by the one-dimension integral along a line called assessment line in the direction of shell thickness recommended by some references and standards. Therefore, a more accurate method is presented in which the resorted stresses are obtained through two-dimension integral over a ring cross-section area called assessment area of the shell. As an example, an analysis based on the elastic analytical solutions of a thick-walled spherical shell bearing internal pressure shows that the method suggested by this paper can make analysis and design of pressure vessels more accurate.
